When buying wearable electronics, many of us pay attention to its autonomy. After all, you should agree that having a gadget that can work for a week without any recharging is more convenient than one that needs to be charged every day. But how are things with Fitbit products? How to charge it properly, how long does it hold a charge, why does the watch or fitness tracker’s battery run down so quickly? Let’s find out.
How to charge your Fitbit? (it is ok to leave charging overnight!)
Your tracker will come with a special charging clip, cable or docking station that attaches to the back of the device. When properly connected, the screen will display a battery icon or percentage of charge symbolizing the start of the process.
See our table for more details on the process for different series and models:

How long does it take to charge Fitbit?
When critically low (below 8%), your smart gadget will notify you by constantly flashing the low battery icon. After that, a number of functions will be disabled in order to prolong the operating time of the device.
Among them: reduced vibration, disabled GPS module, mode permanently enabled display, the brightness of the screen will be minimal, as well as quick answers, voice assistant, notifications from the phone.
If you have just purchased the product for the first time, you should charge it to full (100%). Today’s technology (unlike older types of batteries where you had to keep a close eye on the charge) is equipped with chips that can monitor the battery level correctly so that it won’t be damaged.
As Fitbit claims, some of their series of watches are capable of charging from about zero to 100% in 1-2 hours.
How long battery last?
Once fully charged, different versions of the devices are capable of operating for 5 to 7 days. The amount of time may vary depending on the type and activity of use.
Why is my battery drain so fast?
Let’s take a look at the main things that can cause the battery to discharge too quickly:
- Always On Display mode enabled. According to the manufacturer, with the screen always on the battery consumes a little, but it still consumes more than with the screen completely off. If the problem of fast discharge bothers you, turn off this mode. To do this, go to the Settings app, select Display settings. Tap on the Allways-on display. Select Off.
- Reboot your gadget. With some features of the firmware, it is possible that bugs may appear that cause your watch to run out of power. To reset all processes, swipe down and open the settings app. Click on “Restart Device”.
- The number of sensors turned on is excessive. GPS, Bluetooth and other sensors increase the power consumption of the device. You can turn them off to prolong its operation.
- Update the software. Fitbit programmers can optimize the current version of the operating system, update application libraries, and improve code, resulting in higher energy efficiency and much less battery consumption. To check for updates, open the Fitbit app on the connected phone, tap on your account picture. Scroll down to Help and Support. Click on “Check for updates.” If a new version of the OS is available, you will be notified.
- Perform a full reset to factory settings. This point in principle echoes with the part about rebooting the gadget. But in this case the problem may be hidden in the wrong configuration line, which was embedded in the operating system during the update or operation of the device. To reset all settings to default – select the settings application. Find the “Device Information” option. Find the option “Clear user data. Hold it for 3 seconds to start the clearing process. Note that all your settings will be lost and the device will look as if you just turned it on for the first time.
- Battery wear and tear. If your watch is several years old, there may have been a natural loss of battery capacity. This is normal, but it needs to be replaced. Contact Fitbit support or a service center for replacement of the battery pack.
